If the issue requires a mechanic’s expertise, they’ll tow your car to the nearest repair shop or your preferred location.

Want to jump start a car by yourself? Here’s how to do it

Got a jump starter kit? Use it to revive your flat battery. No kit? Look for jumper cables and a car with a good battery.

First, check your battery’s condition. Is it bulging, cracked, or leaking? Then don’t jumpstart. It could be dangerous. Call a tow truck instead.

If your battery looks okay, look for jumper cables and another working car. If you manage to get these, follow the straightforward process below:

      1. Park both cars hood-to-hood. This works if their batteries are under the hood. Some cars have batteries in the trunk. Others have it under the rear seat.

      2. Start with the red cable. Clamp to the positive terminal on the other car’s battery.

      3. Attach its other end to the positive terminal on your battery.

      4. Then the black cable. Connect it to the negative terminal on car 2's battery.

      5. Attach its other end to the negative terminal on your battery.

      6. Start the second car. Let it run for about 5 minutes. Then start your car.

      7. Leave both vehicles running for about 5 - 10 minutes.

      8. Then disconnect the cables.

      9. That’s it. You’re done. You should be able to drive to your location.
